Stark-Conde Cabernet Sauvignon 2016
|Region||South Africa, Stellenbosch|
Blackberry fruit aromas with tea-leaf and cedar notes. The palate is rich and polished with dark fruit and mocha flavors and a finely balanced acidity. Long finish with the fine tannins typical of a Jonkershoek Valley wine.
There's an upfront green, earthy edge to this wine, with notes of cigar ash and green pepper and hints of coffee and licorice. The medium-weight palate is gripping and full in feel, with structured tannins that lend a lingering astringency to the finish. There's not a lot of acidity, but enough to balance the cherry and plum fruit. Touches of roasted coffee bean and char grace the close.
This delivers a solid beam of red and black currant preserves, lined with light anise and singed cedar notes. The cedar hint peeks out a bit on the finish, so drink this while the fruit is fresh. Drink now through 2021. 4,151 cases made, 1,500 cases imported.
