Elyse York Creek Petite Sirah 2012
|Region||California, Napa Valley|
The 2012 York Creek Petite Sirah shows a great sense of place with 100% of the fruit coming from this famed vineyard situated high above the valley floor on Spring Mountain. It is jet black in color with intriguing aromas and flavors of blackberry, mulberry, anise, black plum and bacon fat. This is not a wine for the faint of heart. It is richly textured and full-bodied on the palate with powerful fruit flavors that are balanced by firm, ripe tannins leading to a long lasting finish. This wine is definitely age worthy and will benefit from decanting in the short term. Pair with strong cheeses, cassoulet, wild game, lamb shank or a nicely peppered steak.
This is from a tremendous vineyard site near the top of the appellation, situated from 1,250 to 1,800 feet. It incorporates small additions of Zinfandel and Carignane into the whole, a picture of soft beguiling violet aromas that are followed by a velvety texture and underlying grip of tannin. Rich red fruit and a taste of licorice linger on the intense finish.
