Aromas of black currants, dried fruit and cherry blend with subtle notes of anise, spice and cocoa. Tannins are rich and refined on the finish, a characteristic of Red Mountain fruit, with flavors of berries, black fruit and cocoa.

The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon from Red Mountain is all varietal and spent 22 months in new French oak. Coming from a mix of the Sol Solare, Quintessence, Shaw, and Kina vineyards, its deep purple hue is followed by a beautifully balanced, medium to full-bodied Cabernet with lots of currant fruits, notes of lead pencil, violets, and damp earth, silky tannins, and a great finish. It doesn't have the richness or concentration of the reserve, yet it's better balanced. Drink this beauty over the coming 15 years or so.

Savory and well-proportioned, with a fervent structure of tannin and acid, balanced by deep blackberry and green olive flavors. Drink now through 2029. 6,400 cases made.

The aromas are reticent initially, with notes of coffee, anise, dried herb, cherry and tar. The flavors are fleshy and straight down the fairway, with plenty of structure behind them. Give it time in the cellar to see it at its best. Drink after 2026.

Bright medium ruby. Brooding, inky scents of cassis, blueberry, dark raspberry, licorice, dark chocolate, tobacco lead and minerals; classic Cabernet Sauvignon! Suave, fine-grained and vibrant on entry, then dense but light on its feet in the middle palate, with lovely spicy/herbal lift to the broad, silky dark berry and cocoa powder flavors. Hints at the dusty mineralogy of Red Mountain. Delivers a sophisticated texture and sneaky depth. More savory than sweet in the early going and in need of patience. But the serious dusty tannins avoid hardness even today and the aftertaste is very subtle and long. If this doesn't show quite the vinosity or the high pitch of the outstanding 2016, this vintage is also superb.
