K Vintners King Coal Red 2016
|Region||United States, Washington|
Always from the Stoneridge Vineyard, the 2016 Cabernet / Syrah King Coal is a ripe, sexy, yet savory effort that has awesome notes of red and black currants, spice box, graphite, and ground herbs. Deep ruby/purple-colored, full-bodied, beautifully layered, and with a blockbuster finish, it's one of those powerful yet still ethereal wines that gives up tons of richness and depth yet has no sense of heaviness or weight.
Good dark red. At once more perfumed and more laid-back on the nose than the last couple of Cabernet/Syrah blends, with subtle red and black fruit notes complicated by spices. Concentrated and sharply delineated but restrained in the early going, conveying an Old World texture and excellent lift to its flavors of redcurrant, raspberry, cassis, black cherry and spices. Finishes lively and long, with firm tannins that avoid dryness. (14% alcohol)
Opens with a supple texture, taking on broad shoulders as the structure builds, with layers of blackberry, licorice and smoked pepper notes. Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. Drink now through 2026. 818 cases made.
