This was one of the coolest growing years on record in the last 30 years, especially during the month of June. Due to the cool weather, harvest was later than usual. These wines will age well, and show more structure due to the increased acidity from the cooler growing season. The 2011 Vellutini Ranch Zinfandel has aromas of chocolate and sweet blueberries. Flavors include black licorice, deep boysenberry and Marion berry, with a satin-like mid- palate and long finish of bright black cherries.

Wine SpectatorPlush, silky and ripe, with aromas of cherry, mineral and spice that lead to layered and jammy wild berry, caramel and herb flavors. A style many will love. Drink now through 2020.

Wine AdvocateWith 16.1% alcohol, the 2011 Zinfandel Vellutini Ranch was obviously picked ripe. There are 350 cases of this cuvee, which was made from the same clonal material from the Jackass and Jackass Hill vineyards. Aromas of ripe figs, black currants, incense, camphor and underbrush emerge from this full-bodied Zin. It possesses slightly more tannin than its siblings, and requires consumption over the next 3-4 years.
