After harvesting, the grapes are gently pressed. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel with daily cap submersion for extraction of flavor and color. The wine is then aged for 24 months in casks. The wine was blended in stainless steel tanks 8 months before bottling. Pair with hearty stew, wild game, roasted red meats and cheeses.

Wine AdvocateThe 2011 Barolo Castiglione is Vietti's proverbial bread-and-butter wine. It is made in larger volumes (the 2011 vintage saw 56,000 bottles produced) and it shows consistent quality that consumers have come to count on. Fruit is sourced from the greater Castiglione area. The nose is compact and impeccable with dark cherry and plum, backed by spice, licorice and anise seed. There's even a playful touch of bitter chocolate on the close.

Wine SpectatorCherry, leather and iron aromas add eucalyptus and tobacco flavors as this polished red unfolds on the palate. Stays balanced and should be approachable soon. Sweet berry, tobacco and mineral details grace the finish. Best from 2018 through 2028. 5,000 cases made.

Wine EnthusiastAromas of wild berry, dark spice, menthol and a hint of pressed flower lead the way on this straightforward Barolo. The full-bodied palate offers dark cherry, licorice and dried herb alongside firm, ripe tannins. Drink 2018-2026.
