Donnafugata Tancredi 2011
Wine AdvocateThe 2011 Tancredi is made of Cabernet Sauvignon, Nero d'Avola, Tannat and other red grapes (in the Sicilia IGT appellation). This is a huge wine with broad shoulders and a very opulent but forthcoming style. The bouquet offers jammy blackberry and cherry liqueur with spice, cola, licorice and Spanish cedar. Tancredi shows a spectacular level of intensity with power and muscle. This vintage delivers a powerful punch. The wine needs a few more months of bottle aging to loosen up.
Wine EnthusiastDark-skinned berry, underbrush, sun baked earth and light oak aromas unfold in the glass while the elegantly structured palate delivers ripe black cherry, licorice, leather and chopped herb. Fine-grained tannins give the finish a firm grip.
Wine SpectatorBright and well-knit, with lively flavors of red currant and dried cranberry fruit, and hints of plum pudding, graphite and wild herb. Fine tannins show on the subtle finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Nero d'Avola and Tannat. Drink now through 2021. 5,000 cases made.
